The Struggle to Live a Still Life

If there is anything I can say about stillness it’s that where God abides, stillness remains.

Figuring out how to surrender every piece of our lives to Him gives us the hope of stillness. If you’re someone who is dealing with turmoil of any kind, then I know this concept isn’t easy. I can’t tell you how many times I told the Lord I was giving Him a burden only to take it right back. It’s a daily process of putting down the flesh so that the spirit can takeover. It’s a concept which takes a lifetime to master, but the beauty acquired along the way holds tremendous worth.

When we choose to make Him Lord over every area, then He has freedom to work. He can move in and change us. However, If you’re anything like me then change can be scary.

Fear of the unknown is often worse than whatever resides in unknown territory. (Tweet that)

When Paul tells us in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ, he meant it. God meant it. It’s truth and the standard on which to build our lives.

Here are the facts:

  • You were born for a reason.
  • You are breathing today because you have a purpose to accomplish.
  • You’ve been called to something specific.
  • You are drawn to Him. (I know this to be true or else you wouldn’t be reading anything I have to say. If you haven’t noticed, I’m a Jesus freak who longs to share the words He puts on my heart.)
  • He Loves you.

It doesn’t matter what you ever did, or even what you are doing right now. God can take you and make you completely whole, but you must surrender yourself wholly to Him.

Stillness is a beautiful compilation of our heart’s deepest and most desperate cries. When we journey towards a still life, we are journeying to Christ.

Once you’ve accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, then you already have everything you need to live a still life. Even when calamity surrounds, you can be still.

I don’t ever want you to think that you were born for anything less than a life of beauty. Your life is beautiful. You may not define it that way, but when you choose to be a child of God, He will define you that way.

Isn’t it amazing that beauty comes from ashes? Ashes are nothing but dust on the ground lying low where people step. They blend into the woodwork and blow where the wind calls them.

Ashes remind me of humility. God gives grace to the humble and transforms those ashes into beauty. Your soul will find nothing but stillness and rest because He knows all about your ashes and He looks on you with grace.

Your life is a story. Don’t you think it’s time you tell it?

Use your gifts. Don’t be afraid of change, trust in the One who transforms your ashes into beauty.

My hope is that over the last thirty-one days you’ve at least become acquainted with a still life.

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and Know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Our one job in stillness is to know that He is God. Let’s perform that job well. Let’s grasp hold of the concept that He is God and He deserves every piece of us.

Friend, He wants us.

He wants you.

Thank you for joining me on the journey to stillness; I’ll see you back here sometime next week. Have a great weekend!

Love,

Jennifer
