Ninety-eight days…
Do you remember the movie White Christmas? In the movie there is a song I absolutely love. I used to sing it to my son when he was little, and I still find myself singing it all the time. The lyrics from the song are, “When I’m worried, and I can’t sleep, I count my blessings instead of sheep, and I fall asleep counting my blessings.” It’s important to count blessings in life. I have so many things for which to be thankful, and yet sometimes it becomes all too easy to get wrapped up in what I don’t have instead of what I do have. I’m overjoyed with a thankful heart today. Overflowing are God’s blessings.
Today I was walking into a store to do some shopping, and I overheard a mother say to her small child, “You are the best helper ever.” She proceeded to speak to him of how wonderful he is and how she couldn’t have made the trip without him. He was maybe five or six years old. Speaking positively into the life of a child is so important. However, there are days we adults need to hear some positive reinforcement as well. When we have the opportunity to remind someone of what a blessing they are to us, it can help them realize all the blessings they have around them as well. I’m not speaking so much about monetary means; although, financial provisions are much needed blessings. I’m speaking of the people living and breathing around us. Speaking encouragement into the lives in which we come into contact every day not only demonstrates the love of God but also brings freedom and hope for those in need of a kind word.
I don’t know the woman I saw at the store today. I’ve never seen her before in my life, but she was (unknowingly) inspirational in this post. She was a blessing to me. I often see the phrase, “Life is good” at the end of many people’s posts on Facebook. Well, if life is good, then God is exceedingly better, and everything we have comes from Him! Have a wonderful day, and don’t forget to count your blessings!
so refreshing! i love a nice mama. “you’re such a good helper” is so much better than “don’t touch that, don’t touch that, don’t touch that, now look what you did.” and you’re right — we don’t stop needing that.
i love your blog!
