Proverbs 12:25
Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad. (N.K.J.V.)
I’ve not been shy about my struggles with anxiety. I have no doubt that overwhelming anxiety can lead to depression. The reason I know this to be true is because I have experienced it. I’m thankful for close friends and family members who provided encouragement and comfort to me when days were difficult.
Everyone needs someone in life who can provide an uplifting word.
Because I have a reserved personality, I tend to try to hide my emotions when I’m enduring a difficult trial in life. It takes some time for me to be able to feel comfortable sharing my situation with someone else. This is mostly because it draws attention to my feelings, which makes me uncomfortable.
If you are like me, and feel uncomfortable seeking out someone to help provide encouragement to you, then it is more important than ever that you root yourself in the word of God. Allow God Himself to support you with encouragement through His own words.
Proverbs 30:5
Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. (N.K.J.V.)
His words are full of hope. When you put your trust in Him, He will be your shield. I’m not suggesting that you will read your Bible one time and instantly feel better. I’m also not saying that you will all of a sudden gain new understanding in your situation. However, I do know that when you are faithful to His word, over the course of time, something will change. It might not be your circumstances. But it might be your heart. You may have a revelation, which will cause you to be better able to deal with your circumstances in a brand new way – a new way which leaves anxiety and panic where it belongs… in the pit.
Continue to seek His word and He will prove Himself faithful.
Are you someone who looks to others for encouragement and prayer support? Or, are you like me?
Unfortunately I often think I can handle things myself. That’s when God floors me with the response I need. I don’t know why I fight so much against the help, But thank God, he helps me realize this over and over and over again.
I can relate!
