Psalm 107:9
For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness. (N.K.J.V.)
It is incomprehensible that Jesus cares so much about our souls that He will actually fill them up with His goodness. He loves us enough to pour Himself in to who we are. My Soul longs for Who He is. His precepts are perfect. I want the constant rhythm of His heartbeat to sound continually throughout my being, so that I will never forget the way He overcame death to give me life.
With His goodness I am overwhelmed. I’m in awe of the way He continues to speak light in to the dark places of my life. God gives us exactly what we need, precisely when we need it. He can write love all over our hearts with His voice: a voice we’ve never heard, yet it’s inexplicably familiar. It delivers peace while serving to wrap us in blankets of hope.
On May 5th 2010 I was reading Genesis Chapter 1. We’ve probably all read it a thousand times, or at least heard the story recounted. But on that particular day, verses 1-3 spoke to me in a way I won’t soon forget.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. (N.K.J.V.)
There have been many days in my life when I’ve felt my world was covered in darkness. I couldn’t escape the situations I was facing and felt deaf to the voice of the Almighty. In verse two the scripture tells us that the spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. There are some other word choices in different translations such as moving or brooding, but I prefer the word hovering. It speaks to my spirit.
The word hovering reminds me of his constancy in my life. He hovers over me in the darkness. I can’t see Him and there are days I don’t feel Him, but it doesn’t change the fact that HE. IS.THERE. And then He said, “Let there be light.” And guess what? There was light.
He is the only One with the ability to speak light in to the dark places of our lives. In exactly the same way He spoke light in to the existence of the universe, He can speak light in to our darkness. The sun you see shining today is the same sun He created at the beginning of time. It rises every morning as a faithful reminder of His goodness, of His ability to fill our soul, to speak life, and to echo truth.
He loves you. He’s hovering over you, He won’t leave you. Even when you cannot feel Him, He is there. Rejoice in His Hope. Be satisfied with His goodness.
Be blessed today!
