FMF writeIt’s time for Five Minute Friday with Lisa-Jo Baker!

I often read interviews from writers who say they were born to write and never thought of doing anything else. I can’t say that.

I’ve always been a lover of books. Fiction or nonfiction, I’m a cheerleader for protagonists making their way in a harsh world while they work to figure out where they fit.

And then, four years ago, I was asked to speak in a child development class at a local college. It was after speaking for 50 minutes to a group of college students that I knew I had a story to tell. I felt the call of God on my life in a brand new way. Once I began to write, I recognized I found the purpose behind what had been 15 years of suffering. I now have an opportunity to help others.

However, there is more to the story of my life. The Lord showed me that I might have started writing from the pain of miscarriage, stillbirth, and infertility, but I wasn’t going to stay there. He has many other topics for me and though I can’t say doors are flinging wide, they’ve unlocked and cracked open just a bit. I’m peeking inside and love what I see. I now know where I fit.

We aren’t all born knowing exactly what we are supposed to do. We don’t all start in our 20s. Sometimes, we start at 39 and confirmation finally takes root at 41. That has been the timetable for my life! It’s never too late to do what God has called you. You may have hidden gifts and talents you never knew you had.

Today, I want to encourage you to stand firm and go where God leads you. Be brave!
