Tonight my son, Sammy, was holding a firefly in his hands (If you’re from my neck of the woods, you might say lightning bug.) I heard my little boy shout, “Go! Fly away! You’re free!”

lighting bug photoAre you ready for the spiritual analogy? Here it comes…

Too often we are weighed down by pain. It holds us like cement. We stay in the same spot unable to move. Oftentimes, it’s because we refuse to give our burden over to God. Instead, we try to work through it ourselves. We think we might be able to fix our situation all on our own. But we can’t. And as a result, we can’t do what we are called to do.

We can’t fly.

When we refuse to fly, we miss out on opportunities to be not only who we are called to be, but who we want to be.

I want to tell you that it is okay to fly. You can fly even if you are still in the middle of a battle with pain, fear, and even panic. You can, because the One who has called you flies higher, and the shadow of His wings will protect you.

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day…

~Psalm 91:3-5

Do not allow your past, present, or fear of the unknown future to hold you down from the plan the Creator has orchestrated for your life. No matter where you are, He is there with you. His wings will cover you with safety. If He has said, “Go” then you must go.
