Seven weeks ago, when my world flipped and tears began to spill everywhere, I wanted to stop. Everything. I couldn’t imagine writing, speaking, or encouraging people to receive life from Christ when my bones felt dry.
Yet, here I am.
I kept going, pressing onward, pushing forward. I had to. After seven weeks, I still hurt and not any less than day one. However, I’m learning to adjust to a new life. My bones aren’t dry. They still have the breath of God breathing hope inside, just like CPR. However, the joints definitely need oiled from time-to-time. It takes work to move through grief. There are mornings I feel stiff and completely undone wondering what the day will hold. I find myself in fear of the next tragedy. When will it be and will I survive it? I cry out, “Dear Jesus, What does tomorrow hold?”
And He answers, “Just give Me today.”
Jesus owns every day. He knows what will happen tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that. But I’m only living in today. I have no idea what will happen tomorrow. My heart only beats in the here and now. And if I can’t give Him today, something I already have, then how will I ever give Him tomorrow?
Friends, we can’t give what we don’t own.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
-Matthew 6:34
Today is where we live, and today is all we have to give. So let’s give it. Let’s give today to a God who knows all and who is ALL. Let’s find joy and strength inside knowing that our hearts beat right now. We are breathing right now. He conducts every inhale and exhale like a symphony. To Christ, it’s the most beautiful sound possible. His breath begins the rhythm of our hearts. His breath oils the joints and moves us through the day. His breath speaks, “Just give Me today.”
And then we exhale peace.
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
-John 14:27
May today bring you peace in knowing you can give it to Him. You have the ability to offer every second, every moment, every hour. You can hand today over to the Father who created the sound of your heartbeat. He’s the One who makes all things new. Give today away and take a deep breath. Inhale. Exhale. You might not have heard it, but you just sang a beautiful melody to the Creator.
Love,
Jennifer
It’s a perpetual handing over…and He’s graced us to do it. Oh that we would release our cares, truly let them go. So happy you were my neighbor at Coffee For Your Heart. You’ve blessed me. Praying you feel him near tonight. Love you friend.
God transforms us when we give over our day. If only it was easier. May God bless you with more than you ever imagined!
What a beautiful reminder that we grasp too tightly our days and those in our lives. May we learn to rely on Him fully for His hope and plan for today and tomorrow! I’m always encouraged when visiting you, Jennifer! Praying for God to continue to heal you and sustain you!
“Just give me today” …so simple and yet so deep. Thank you Jennifer. God Bless You!
