The word establish shows up all throughout scripture. If you do a search you can see for yourself.
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father,
who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace,
comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.
– 2 Thessalonians 2: 16-17 (NKJV, emphasis mine)
If your good word and works are established, they are firm, proven, solidified in your heart and woven tightly into your soul. When you are established you feel secure, which allows hope and peace to flow in sincerity.
To become established in anything is a process. (Yep, there is that word process again!) It takes time and effort. Becoming established does not happen overnight, and you cannot be established without a foundation.
Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them,
I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house,
who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock.
And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house,
and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.
But he who heard and did nothing is like a man
who built a house on the earth without a foundation,
against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell.
And the ruin of that house was great.
– Luke 6:47-49 (NKJV)
When our hearts shatter into a million pieces and we feel zero sense of security, how can we possibly remain established?
It’s through faith. When we trust in an unseen God and recognize His presence in our daily lives, we become brave enough to keep believing in His sovereignty even though we don’t always feel Him fighting for us.
We have to remember that He tilled the mercy-rich soil on the battleground with His own suffering. And it is only soaked with grace because it is saturated with His blood.
He was on the very same battlefield two thousand years before we were. He has prepared the ground so that we can be victorious. Yet, just like Jesus explained in Luke 6, victory is still a choice. When we choose to build our house on the sand rather than the rock, we are choosing to lose the battle.
I want to tell you something: He established the battleground for your victory. Be victorious! I’ve found that broken pieces mended back together serve as the strongest cement. You have a testimony. Your story and life are powerful to the lives around you. You have a purpose. So continue fighting for it.
Keep building on the rock of Christ. Choose to allow your heart, words, and work be firmly established in only Him.
In the wake of the loss of our unborn children, I spent hours sitting in reproductive healthcare offices waiting for infertility specialists to deliver bad news. I was at least a decade younger than the other women in the waiting room beside me. I didn’t know who I was anymore. My smile changed. My eyes didn’t light up anymore. I was weary. And yet, I was established.
I woke up every morning and made a conscious decision to trust. It hurt. I didn’t like it. I wasn’t necessarily happy about it, but I did it. I chose to hold onto hope.
Please take the advice from a woman who knows. Your choices will lead you either to victory or to ruin. Make the right choice. Establish your heart with Him.
I care about you, and I know you can do this!
Love,
Jennifer
