We have six more days until entering a brand new year. What new doors are you hoping to pray open in 2014?
God wants to do a NEW THING in your life. He longs for a relationship with you. Do you know God moves mountains?
A couple months ago, I was doing some research for a Bible study I’m teaching. My studying led me to revisit the story of Abraham.
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. 2 And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.” 3 Then Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying: 4 “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations. 5 No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations. 6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you. 7 And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you. 8 Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.”
-Genesis 17: 1-8 (N.K.J.V.)
I have read the above passage of scripture countless times in my life. Every time I read it I think about the land and the number of descendents God promised Abraham. I consider the name change from Abram to Abraham. I sit and read in awe of how Abram fell on his face in the presence of the Almighty’s Glory.
However, never before did verse 7 impact my life the way it did on the particular day I revisited his story.
7 And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you.
-Genesis 17:7
He made a covenant to be Abraham’s God. And, not just his God, but his children’s God. And, his children’s, children’s God! Forever and ever! The covenant is everlasting. I sit here writing to you today because of His promise. Because of His covenant with Abraham, He is my God.
And that means He is yours also!
He wants to do a new thing in your life, yes! He wants to move your mountains, yes! But most of all, He wants to be your God! He wants you.
As you sit on the doorstep of 2014, consider the gift He is in your life. Regardless of what you need, look at what you already have and remember, when He made that promise to Abraham, He included you. He already loved you. He already knew you.
Be prayerful about your resolutions. As you decide what you need and want in 2014, consider the condition of your soul. Choose a scripture for the New Year that will not only be a reminder of who He is, but will also help root you further in Him.
God Bless you!
Love,
Jennifer
